What a county guide covers that a city guide does not
Florida's crypto rules are made in Tallahassee and apply statewide — Chapter 560 money transmitter licensing through the Office of Financial Regulation, and from 1 March 2027 kiosk registration under HB 505. No Florida county has its own crypto ordinance.
But three things are genuinely county-level. Enforcement: sheriff's offices investigate crypto fraud locally, and some have become notably capable — the Marion County Sheriff's Office co-led the state's largest recovery, $5.4 million, announced in April 2026. Economy: what people use crypto for differs enormously between Doral's trade cluster, Immokalee's remittance corridors, Brevard's cleared aerospace workforce and Charlotte County's retirement communities. And demography: the counties where four in ten residents are over sixty-five need a different page from the counties where the median resident is a twenty-year-old student.

County-level patterns worth knowing
Kiosk density follows cash, not population
Miami-Dade has several hundred machines. Lee County, with 830,000 residents, has thin coverage in Cape Coral because it was platted as a residential development with almost no commercial land. Density tracks cash-heavy retail and thin banking coverage.
Fee levels follow competition
Broward's Federal Highway corridor and Hillsborough's Dale Mabry Highway run 10% to 15% because several operators compete. Monroe County runs 15% to 20% because there is no competition within an hour.
Age determines the fraud profile
Charlotte, Hernando, Sarasota and Pinellas have very high 65-plus shares and correspondingly heavy impersonation and romance-fraud exposure. Alachua and Leon, dominated by universities, face money-mule recruitment and leverage marketing instead.
Remittances are a county-level phenomenon
Miami-Dade, Osceola, Manatee, Collier and Indian River all contain populations for whom crypto is a cheaper transfer rail rather than an investment. In every case the on-ramp is the entire economics.
Storm exposure varies enormously
Lee, Charlotte, Bay, Monroe and Pinellas have all taken direct hits or evacuated in living memory. In those counties, hurricane-proof recovery-phrase storage is not a precaution — it is a requirement.
Two counties host national operators
Byte Federal is headquartered in Venice, Sarasota County. Athena Bitcoin Global runs its global operation from downtown Miami in Miami-Dade. Florida is not just a market for kiosks — it is where part of the industry lives.
Why the county line is a real boundary for a crypto buyer
On the pricing side, county lines mean very little — a kiosk operator does not change its fee schedule at a county boundary, and a licensed exchange charges the same in all 67 counties. On every other dimension, the county is the unit that matters, and it is the reason these pages exist alongside the city guides.
Fraud response is organised by county. When a Floridian loses money to an investment scam, the first agency that can actually do something is the sheriff's office or the local police department's economic crimes unit, and the quality of that unit varies enormously across the state. The $5.4 million recovered in April 2026 happened because a county-level investigation and the Attorney General's office worked the same case together — that is the mechanism, and it is a county mechanism. Our county pages tell you who to call and in what order, which is information a city page cannot carry cleanly when a metropolitan area spans three jurisdictions.
Property and business records are county records too. If you are moving crypto gains into a Florida house, the deed, the documentary stamp tax and the homestead exemption all run through the county — the property appraiser, the clerk of court and the tax collector are county offices, not state ones. Buyers in Collier, Sarasota, Monroe and Palm Beach counties hit this first, because that is where the money most often lands.
And kiosk density is a county-scale phenomenon, not a city-scale one. Machine counts track unbanked household share and retail footprint across a whole county far better than they track city limits. Miami-Dade and Broward together carry a disproportionate share of Florida's machines; Monroe, Charlotte and Hernando carry very few, which is precisely why pricing there sits at the top of the range. Reading the county page first tells you whether you are in a competitive market before you go looking for a specific machine.
How to use a county guide alongside a city guide
The practical sequence we would suggest: read the county page to understand the market you are in — how many machines, how competitive, what the local enforcement picture looks like, which corridors carry density. Then read the city page for the specific streets, the specific fee ranges and the local fraud pattern. Then, in almost every case, open a licensed exchange account anyway, because 0.16% to 0.40% on an order book beats 11% to 22% at a machine by a margin no amount of local knowledge closes.
Where a county guide is genuinely the more important page is when you are buying in size, when you are planning custody and succession, or when something has already gone wrong. Those three situations all have county-level answers — an OTC desk, an estate attorney, a sheriff's economic crimes unit — and none of them have city-level ones.
