Broward County at a glance
Broward County has nearly two million residents, a large and genuinely international business community, and the most competitively priced crypto kiosk corridor in South Florida. The Federal Highway stretch from Deerfield Beach down through Hollywood carries enough competing operators that no single machine can charge whatever it likes — call it 10% to 15% all-in against Miami-Dade's 14% to 22%.
It also has an unusual relationship to cross-border money. Port Everglades and the yacht industry along the 17th Street Causeway have handled international, multi-currency, high-value transactions since long before anyone said "blockchain". When a Dutch buyer closes on a ninety-foot sportfish, the brokerage does not find stablecoin settlement exotic. That practical fluency shows up in how local businesses discuss crypto — less evangelism, more plumbing.
This page covers the county picture. Nine city guides below go street by street.
The economy behind the crypto market
Broward's economy gives crypto several natural footholds. Marine services and yachting bring high-value, cross-border, multi-currency transactions where blockchain settlement genuinely beats a correspondent-banking wire. Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International and Executive Airport support an aviation trade with the same profile. Port Everglades moves cargo and cruise passengers with a permanent stream of international payments behind it.
Healthcare is the largest civilian employment sector — Memorial Healthcare System and Broward Health are among the county's biggest employers. Add tourism and hospitality, education, professional services, and the enormous economic footprint of the Seminole Tribe's Hard Rock complex in Hollywood.
West Broward — Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Coral Springs, Weston, Plantation, Sunrise — is where the professional and family population lives, and it behaves entirely differently from the coastal strip: banked, salaried, app-based, buying on schedules rather than in cash.
Layer Florida's constitutional prohibition on a state income tax over all of it and the appeal for people relocating from the North-East is obvious. Someone who moves from New Jersey to Broward and later realises a large long-term gain pays federal tax and nothing to Tallahassee — a real, legal, structural difference, and part of why a steady stream of crypto-wealthy people have bought in Broward and Palm Beach counties since 2021.
How access is distributed
Broward's crypto geography splits along the same lines as its economy.
East of I-95, from the beach through Victoria Park and downtown, you get a mix of tourist-priced machines and a professional services layer — accountants who understand cost basis, attorneys who have drafted a digital-asset clause, wealth managers with crypto allocations. Not many kiosks, but the most competent human help in the county.
The central corridors — Sunrise Boulevard, Broward Boulevard, Oakland Park Boulevard, and the US-1 spine — carry most of the physical machines. This is where cash purchases actually happen, and where the fee spread between operators is widest. It is genuinely worth checking two machines within a mile.
West Broward is suburban and online-first. Household incomes are higher, cash usage lower, and residents overwhelmingly buy through apps. Machines out there sit in supermarket vestibules and are mostly voucher products for convenience rather than a serious purchase channel.
The marine belt — the causeway, the New River, Port Everglades, the boatyards up the Dania Cut-off Canal — is where crypto is a payment rail rather than an investment, and where you are most likely to meet someone who has actually settled a six-figure transaction in USDT.
Corridor by corridor
Kiosk pricing in Florida is a function of local competition rather than local cost. The same machine model charges 11% on one road and 20% on another twenty minutes away. Here is how Broward County's corridors compare.
Federal Highway (US-1)
The county's main kiosk artery, running from Deerfield Beach through Pompano, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood. Multiple operators over many miles produce the most competitive cash pricing in South Florida at 10–15% all-in.
17th Street Causeway & Port Everglades
Marine services, yacht brokerages and crew agencies. This is the crypto-payments corner of Broward rather than the crypto-buying corner — several brokerages quote and settle in stablecoins for international buyers.
Sunrise Boulevard & Lauderhill
Higher machine density serving a cash-heavy customer base, and correspondingly higher fees. Also where the 2027 kiosk fraud-warning requirements will matter most.
Oakland Park Boulevard & Wilton Manors
Reliable suburban coverage in supermarket and pharmacy plazas, mostly voucher-style machines. Convenient and mid-priced.
West Broward — Weston, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs
Higher incomes, near-universal banking, and almost no kiosk demand. Residents buy through licensed exchange apps. Supermarket voucher machines cover convenience purchases.
Sawgrass Mills & the arena district
Enormous retail footfall drives machine placement, and pricing reflects visitors rather than residents. Among the most expensive in the county.
Century Village & the 55+ communities
Minimal local machine coverage but the county's highest fraud exposure. Residents are contacted by telephone and directed to machines miles away — distance offers no protection.
Cypress Creek & Executive Airport
Business-park territory with aviation and marine clients, and a handful of small OTC and consulting operations serving them.
Kiosks: operators and real fees
Broward County has several hundred crypto kiosks, with the heaviest concentrations in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pompano Beach and Lauderhill. Two things are worth knowing before you go.
The network changed materially in 2026. Bitcoin Depot's Chapter 11 filing on 18 May 2026 killed roughly 156 Florida machines overnight, and a lot of them were in Broward convenience stores. The branding is often still on the wall. Check the operator's own locator rather than a third-party aggregator, and if a screen does not connect, walk away.
Broward is cheaper than Miami-Dade, and that is not a recommendation. Typically 10% to 18% all-in versus Miami's 14% to 22%. On a $500 purchase you are still handing over $50 to $90 for a service that costs about $1 online. The Federal Highway corridor is the competitive stretch; Sunrise Boulevard, Lauderhill and the Sawgrass Mills area price higher.
Operators you will actually encounter: CoinFlip (the largest surviving Florida network at roughly 270 machines), Byte Federal (headquartered in Venice, Florida with 110-plus Florida sites), Coinme through Coinstar machines inside grocery chains — a voucher product with an all-in cash exchange fee of roughly 15% to 18% per Coinme's own documentation — Athena Bitcoin, and RockItCoin, which offers live phone support during a purchase.
Licensed exchanges serving Broward County

Fraud and the 2027 rules
Broward County is consistently among the top Florida counties for crypto kiosk fraud losses, and its demographics explain why: a large older population with home equity and savings, spread across dozens of 55-plus communities.
Impersonation fraud dominates by volume. A caller impersonates a bank, a utility, the IRS, Medicare, a grandchild in trouble, or a sheriff's deputy with a warrant. Urgency, secrecy, a cash withdrawal, and driving directions to a machine — frequently in a different city. FBI IC3 recorded 1,213 Florida kiosk complaints in 2025 totalling $32.8 million in adjusted losses, and Broward is consistently a top-contributing county.
Romance-to-investment fraud is the costliest by dollar value. The Florida Attorney General's Cyber Fraud Enforcement Unit announced a $5.4 million recovery from exactly this pattern in April 2026.
Business email compromise targets the marine and aviation trades specifically — a compromised email supplying changed wallet instructions mid-transaction. Verify by voice on a number you already had.
From 1 January 2027, Florida's Virtual Currency Kiosk Act requires operators to display fraud warnings before a transaction — including asking whether you have used another kiosk that day — to provide receipts showing the transaction hash and destination address, to cap daily volume at $2,000 for new customers and $10,000 thereafter, and to refund a first-transaction fraud victim in full within 72 hours where they report within 60 days.
Before anyone in your family uses a Florida kiosk
- No bank, agency, utility, court or law enforcement body ever accepts payment at a crypto kiosk.
- Urgency plus secrecy is a theft in progress. Hanging up costs nothing.
- Never scan a QR code or wallet address supplied by someone else.
- Keep the receipt — from 2027 it must show the transaction hash, wallet addresses and all fees.
- Report fraud within 60 days to the operator and law enforcement to preserve the refund right.
Broward rewards the boring approach. Open an account with a licensed exchange, connect your bank, place limit orders, and move anything long-term into a hardware wallet with a waterproof backup. The Federal Highway machines have a legitimate use — cash, small amounts, right now — but they are a tool for a specific job, not a way to build a position.
If you work in the marine or aviation trade and are being paid in stablecoins, get an accountant who has done it before. The tax questions there are more interesting than the buying questions. And if you have family in one of the 55-plus communities, the conversation about urgent, secret money requests is worth more than every fee comparison on this page.

Are crypto ATM fees cheaper in Broward than Miami?
Yes, modestly — typically 10% to 18% all-in versus Miami-Dade's 14% to 22%, because the Federal Highway corridor carries more competing operators over a longer stretch. Both are far more expensive than a licensed exchange at under 0.3%.
Where are the best-priced crypto ATMs in Broward County?
The Federal Highway (US-1) corridor from Deerfield Beach through Pompano, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood. Sunrise Boulevard, Lauderhill and the Sawgrass Mills area are the most expensive. Confirm any machine is live first — Bitcoin Depot machines across Florida went dark in May 2026.
Do Fort Lauderdale yacht brokers accept crypto?
Some do, usually through a payment processor that converts to dollars immediately, and more often for deposits than full settlement. Marine businesses along the 17th Street Causeway and the Dania Cut-off Canal are among the more crypto-fluent in Florida because they already handle multi-currency international payments.
Is crypto legal in Broward County?
Yes. Buying, holding and selling cryptocurrency is legal throughout Florida. Businesses transmitting virtual currency for customers need a money transmitter licence from the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, and from 2027 kiosk operators face separate registration under HB 505. No Broward County ordinance restricts personal ownership.
Why is Broward targeted for crypto fraud?
Because it combines a very large population over sixty-five, substantial home equity and savings, and dozens of 55-plus communities where residents often live alone. The scam supplies the transport — callers give driving directions to machines miles away, so having no kiosk nearby offers no protection.
Do Broward residents pay state tax on crypto gains?
No. Florida has no personal income tax and no state estate tax. Federal capital gains tax applies in full. See our capital gains guide.
